Official or not
Rust's in-game Official tab against everything elseOfficial servers are the ones in Rust's in-game Official tab: Facepunch's own and its partners', such as RustSpain. Rust Server Trends keeps that list by hand, by hostname and address. Everything else is a community or modded server.
At the last refresh, 93,658 players were recorded on 11,844 public Rust servers, with 830 more waiting in queues. That is the reading at 27 Oct 2026, 16:35 UTC, and it will have moved by the time you read this. The records below show how the count has run over the past day and the past months, then how those players divide across game mode, modded and vanilla, group size, gather rate, region and wipe day. Read it as a station log rather than a headline: the figure rises through the European evening and drops back overnight.

Questions
How many players does Rust have right now?
The live figure at the top of this page is the total recorded on public Rust servers at 27 Oct 2026, 16:35 UTC, refreshed every five minutes. It counts players actually on a server, not everyone with the game open. Use the hourly history to see where the current reading sits against the past day.
Why does this figure differ from the count on Steam?
Steam reports everyone running Rust, which includes players in menus, loading screens and on servers that keep themselves off public lists. This page records only public servers, because that is the population that can be attributed to a server, a mode and a region. The two numbers measure different things, so they rarely match.
What time of day is Rust at its busiest?
Recorded activity climbs through the European evening and falls back in the early hours of the UTC morning. The busiest hour of the day typically carries more than double the population of the quietest. Because 98,991 is the highest reading observed in the last day, check the timestamp beside it before you compare it with the current count.
Do modded or vanilla servers have more players?
Modded servers hold the larger share of players, mostly because there are more of them listed. Vanilla and official servers carry a smaller total across fewer servers. The split on this page is drawn from the latest refresh, so it changes as servers come and go from the list.
